Photography Tips For Twins

The only thing more exciting than having a baby is having TWO babies! Photographing twins can seem super intimidating. The stress of how to handle two babies, posing two babies and keeping two babies happy for about an hour session can be overwhelming for anybody! But it doesn’t have to be. Let’s break it down as I share my photography tips for twins.

Be Flexible

Newborn sessions will always have blowouts, cries and fussy babies. It is simply the nature of it. With twin newborn photography you will have double everything, including the blowouts, cries and fussiness. However, this never lasts! Babies always calm down, fall asleep and are happily posed. The key is to be patient and flexible, especially with newborn twins.

We will probably go into your newborn twin session with an idea of an agenda or timeline for the session. But, chances are things wont go to plan. It is so important that we are flexible. If both babies aren’t happy when we thought we would capturing the two together, then we can just photograph one twin while the other nurses. Having the headspace that you can be flexible and work around your newborn’s needs will help eliminate stress in your newborn session.

Your Village

You know the saying, it takes a village to raise a child. Well, it is the same for newborn twin photography! Okay, maybe not an entire village, but definitely some support. I have found that with newborn twin photography there is a lot more communication that goes on during the session. If you plan on bringing anyone to help, or be part of the session, I would suggest discussing with them how they can help before and during the session. Another pair of hands to accompany another baby is always a good idea!

Have Fun

Having twins may seem like a lot, and then photographing twins may seem even more crazy! But remember to never take yourself too seriously and have fun with it. We can always take timeouts during the session if too much chaos is filling the studio. At the end of the day I don’t want you to just have beautiful photos of your twins, I also want you to have a positive experience and leave happy with the session.
